My work adopts the psychological drama of a murder mystery, using similar motifs and plot devices. The cast of characters and the surrounding atmosphere are carefully crafted to fit the story through dynamic composition, lighting, and intricate detail. Looking along the surface will allow only partial clarity, but gazing deeper into the scene unveils secrets. There is something so disturbing about how human curiosity allows us to become obsessive over every detail- an obsession that must come to some sort of conclusion. My work invites audiences to explore that uncomfortable fascination, and through their own perspective, find an answer that suits them.
There is a permanence to alcohol ink similar to the permanence of an action. Once you have made a mark, it is there, and there is no going back or covering it. This is an inherent risk with using the medium, reminding me with every mark I make, if I slip up even once, I have to start over from the beginning. This medium supports me in my exploration of both literal and symbolic subject matter; the ink of the marker becoming reminiscent to the delicate permanence of death.
